Overview

Spiti Valley is a land of extreme weathers covered entirely with snow during the winter months. It is a high altitude cold desert with snow-clad peaks, mountains and deep gorges with breath-taking scenery. In this incredible landscape, lives the rare and endangered Snow Leopard. Until about half a decade ago, it was more hard to find a Snow Leopard than a needle in a hay stack. But in recent times, the significant increase in frequency of Snow Leopard sightings has put Spiti Valley on the bucket list of Wildlife Photographers and enthusiasts alike.

Shrouded amongst valleys and towering mountains is a beautiful village of Kibber, our base for the Snow Leopard expedition. As isolated as it can be, it is in the heart of the habitat of the beautiful feline. We will explore this beautiful place both by foot and by SUVs to for Snow Leopards and other wildlife in Spiti Valley.

Our journey begins in Chandigarh as we undertake the 2-day long road trip into Spiti Valley. We make overnight stops at Rampur Bushahr and Kaza. Join us on this Snow Leopard Expedition and journey deep into Himachal Pradesh’s Spiti Valley for 7 exhilarating days of tracking and photographing the elusive Snow Leopards in Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary.

    Chandigarh to Rampur Bushahr

Around 10 am, we depart Chandigarh and drive on the windy hill roads towards Shimla, Kufri, Narkandha and over to our final destination – Rampur Bushahr. Enroute, we will make a stop for lunch.

    Rampur Bushahr to Kaza

Today, yet again we make an early start after breakfast towards Kaza. Enroute, we will stop at Recong Peo to process inner line permits for our non-Indian tour participants and then proceed to Kaza. The landscape would gradually change from green forests to snow clad mountains.

As you ascend to Kaza, the landscape just keeps getting better and more scenic with each turn as the mercury slowly begins to dip below 0 degrees.

At Kaza, the rest of the day is spent acclimatising in the hotel.

    Snow Leopard Photography and tracking

Over the next 6 days, our itinerary will remain flexible. Each day, we will leave our homestay after a hearty breakfast and visit locations that our expert Snow Leopard Spotters have been scanning in search of Snow Leopards.

On certain days, we will make an early start to visit some vantage points to also see and photograph some of Spiti Valley’s other wildlife like Asiatic Ibex, Blue Sheep (Bharal), Red Fox, Lammergier, Chukkar Partridge etc.

Not to forget the incredible landscapes of Spiti Valley too.

During our time in the homestay, we will have sessions to review images and post process our photos from the tour. In addition, there will be sessions to discuss and learn new techniques in wildlife photography.
