At a tender age of just 3 years, Gaurav Ramnarayanan wielded a camera gifted by his father. As a child, he spent many of his weekends in a house their family-owned nearby one of the Tiger reserves in South India. Growing up in the lap of nature and being exposed to photography so early in his life, Gaurav’s keen interest in the natural world grew leaps and bounds.
With a keen eye for perfection, Gaurav has traveled extensively in India and around the world capturing the myriad wildlife, diverse cultures, and stunning landscapes. All these years spent in the wild photographing a plethora of species across different landscapes has led him to acquire a lot of skills and knowledge with not just the camera, but also with tracking Big Cats and understanding wildlife behavior. He has successfully combined the years of experience from his travels and knowledge of photography to build the very foundation of The Wildside, thus paving the way for all his guests to be able to experience the best.
He is a proud winner of 5 international photography awards presented by prestigious institutions, including the Natural History Museum in London, The Rutland Bird Fair in the United Kingdom, and The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C., USA.
The Wildside hosted me and my wife in India. Being our first trip to the East, Gaurav insisted we visited Varanasi. It was the best decision we took and oh wow! What a city it was. The temples in Khajuraho was mind-blowing and if not for The Wildside, we wouldn’t have gone to these places. The sunrise at Taj Mahal was spectacular and then we headed over to Gaurav’s most recommended place – Ranthambhore. Though we weren’t too interested in Wildlife, we enjoyed the hospitality of the hotel and also the safari for 2 days. 2 Tigers were all we saw but that was a soul-stirring experience. We were put up in great hotels in Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur and the guides and drivers were great. They made us feel like home in a foreign country and India deserves a return visit soon!
Although I was aware that Asiatic Lions existed in India, I never knew they were so easy to see until I got in touch with Gaurav after seeing his Instagram post. On our way back to Germany from Australia, I stopped in India for 6 days to see the Lions. I landed Rajkot and the driver got me at the airport. I saw so many Lions in 3 days in Gir. Gaurav had planned another park close by, the Black Buck reserve. In one day, I saw some very rare animals including Indian Wolf and Hyena. The safaris and driver was nice and hotels was comfortable. Next time, I have to stay longer to see the Tigers. The Wildside and Gaurav planned well and I recommend him to any person wanting to go there for Lions.
Doesn’t get better than a trip kaziranga national park in the summer of 2018. Unforgettable, seeing the mighty Bhramaputra winding it’s muddy way around the park, lazy rhinos in attendance. No planned cruise or elaborate spread could have been better than our impromptu fishing boat ride on this iconic river. Still drooling over the delicious chilli smeared fish roasted on makeshift tinfoil with mustard oil. Truly an Incredible India moment.
Gaurav’s passion for nature and wildlife shows in his planning and infected us travellers too. Thanks for putting together an unforgettable trip and staying on call during moments of drama, Gaurav.
The Andamans is sure a destination of beauty and serenity and I thank The Wildside tours for organising such a thoughtful trip. Starting from the hotel selections to the pickup services they were point on and gave us good options to choose from . The day trips organised were flexible and conveniently arranged and I must say that the hassle free travel made it more memorable.
Being my first time in India , Andaman was an exciting destination . Everybit of the islands visited was a pure delight . My very favourite was the stay at seashell cottages and I Thank The Wilside for suggesting that place. The cab services were punctual so we ended up spending a lot more time in the beaches. Overall trip was unforgettable.
Ciao, Travelling India for almost two weeks before the Andamans clearly told me that Andaman islands isone of a kind. The water was beautiful and I completely enjoyed my stay there. Thanks to Wildsidetours for the memory of this beautiful side of India.
